Broadcast on television in 1979, Mobile Suit Gundam is a monument to Japanese robot animation. Mobile Suit Gundam the Origin, the huge comic hit that boasts over ten million copies in circulation from the hands of Yasuhiko Yoshikazu, is finally being animated!

Char Aznable, a man called the Red Comet and ace pilot for the Principality of Zeon. Sayla Mass, his sister. What tragedy in their past determined their fate?

In four episodes, the “Char and Sayla arc” illustrates a story of continual change for the two siblings with the sudden death of their Father, Zeon Zum Deikun who was the leader of the Spacenoids.

Univeral Century 0068. This was known as the Autonomous Republic of Munzo. One leader’s sudden death triggers an era of upheaval. Amid the chaos, the Zabi faction sets out to seize power. Caught in the middle are Deikun’s orphaned children, Casval and Artesia. Can Casval make a desperate escape? Now begins Char Aznable’s dramatic revenge.

Universal Century 0071. Three years have passed. After many ups and downs, the siblings are targeted again by the Zabis’ sinister plans. And there are two others who also suffer the whims of fate. At last, witness the secret history of mobile suit development. The fearsome Cyclops is born! Sorrow… A brother and sister will soon be parted. And now the red vengeance begins. Goodbye, Artesia.

On that day, by an unpredictable twist of fate, a new Char Aznable was born. Char enrolls in the Republic of Zeon Military Academy. Among the elite cadets who are pursuing their studies there is none other than Garma Zabi. The fiendish genius, Dr. Minovsky. He, too, is about to alter the course of Zeon’s future. Garma Zabi, on whom rests the pride of the Zabi family. Here, a fateful bond will be formed. The year is U.C.0077. The young at last rise up and begin the fight for independence! Char will rise with the dawn!

The name of the mastermind behind the youths who rose up against the Federation was Char Aznable. He is now found on Earth, in the Amazon region. He has a fateful encounter with Lalah, a girl with strange abilities. The race to develop mobile suits, which will change the face of warfare, intensifies. With his pride at stake, Amuro’s father, Tem Ray, proposes the development of the RX-78. The first battle to the death between mobile suits in human history unfolds in the twilight zone of the lunar surface! The Principality of Zeon declares independence from the Earth Federation. The curtain rises on war. The chronicle of Char and Sayla finally concludes.

Universal Century 0079. The battle has finally begun! Together until the day of victory! The Principality of Zeon launches a war of independence against the Earth Federation government. Furthermore, the Zeon forces are carrying out a secret operation. The colony drop known as “Operation British” wipes out half of Earth’s population. Meanwhile, the Federation Forces initiate a counteroffensive with their overwhelming fighting strength. But what await them are mobile suits, the new weapon of the Zeon forces! The arena is Loum. The largest battle in human history turns the darkness of space into a blazing crucible. In a maelstrom of plots and schemes, which side will be victorious?!

A furious battle finally begins at Loum. Seeing the results of the battle, Degwin seeks to negotiate peace. As does Revil. M’Quve represents the Principality of Zeon in the peace negotiations. The Zabi family’s internal power struggle becomes more complicated, and the course of war grows darker. Meanwhile, the Earth Federation government launches “Operation V”, its plan for counterattack. And Char Aznable takes action to thwart it. At the same time, Amuro Ray tries to find out the secret of the Gundam his father has been developing.
