This Newtype-exclusive machine was designed for Char Aznable, the new Supreme Commander of Neo Zeon. Envisioned as the culmination of Zeon-born mobile suits, it boasts incredible firepower for a single unit. While the Jagd Doga was initially developed as the exclusive suit for Char, its failure to meet requirements led to an entire redesign. The design of this suit was reached by exploring the possibilities of the psycho-frame, starting with the psycho-plates, and by accumulating data from various prototypes and experimental suits. Although the name changed several times, it was finally branded Sazabi, a name the developer had kept to themself.

As a result of the redesign, it transformed into a heavy mobile suit much larger than the Jagd Doga and Varguil due to its necessary equipment, armaments, and fighting capabilities. This was all to counter the Earth Federation Forces that would be closing in in heavy numbers during the operation to freeze Earth.

The Sazabi Early Test Type (under gravity version)* was one of the models used in constructing the Sazabi under the assumption of an operation to freeze Earth, so it repurposed the cockpit core from the Geara Doga into a double-seater model temporarily installed in the abdomen. Its head was outfitted with a Jagd Doga head, and a long rifle with long-range, high single-shot firepower was prepared as a hand-held weapon.

It was piloted by Commander Char Aznable as he was about to welcome Mineva Zabi to the Antarctic base and clashed with the Moon Gundam piloted by Yutta.

Equipped with shield.

DESIGN NOTES

Shortly before the final version of the Sazabi rolled out, it underwent repeated testing at a rapid pace. Based on the Jagd Doga, all currently available tech was poured into this suit, but due to output levels not meeting Char’s requirements, the generator was later replaced. Simply put, this “prototype” is equipped with a generator that is a generation older than the Sazabi we’d later see in Char’s Counterattack. This later, custom-built, large generator required a tremendous amount of space, so the temporary cockpit in its chest was shifted to the head with an escape pod system, thus completing the Sazabi’s final form.

At Fukui’s request, the cockpit was set up in the chest, as depicted in the novel (Hi-Streamer), and can also be turned into a double-seater via attachment. This was based on Yutaka Izubuchi’s early draft of the suit, known then as Zanac. Since the head was designed before the escape pod system was installed, the same design proved to be problematic, so a variant model of the Jagd’s was used with the finalized Sazabi’s head being designed for the pod deployment. All this was done to illustrate that while the appearance is almost the same, everything about it is totally different from a setting perspective. As the Sazabi is likely the most “powerful” suit, there are probably several prototypes, including some that have been abandoned, so this current model is just one of those.

A large beam rifle developed for the Sazabi project. It is compatible with the Varguil and Moon Gundam.
