〈WHAT THE PROJECT IS AIMING FOR〉

A definitive version of mecha + human drama!

Science fiction on television has a deeply rooted popularity among children (elementary, middle, and high school students). Nonetheless, simple action from mecha and other robots isn’t enough for them, and they’re searching for the human drama in it all, something that’s a prominent sign of the times. A deepening of “fighting for the sake of fighting” to “why should we fight?” How do people cope and act when thrust into extreme situations?

Furthermore, we will discuss organizations and individuals, emotions and reason, love with friends, love with the opposite sex, the various emotions people have, and ways of life.

In other words, it can be said that the relationship between people and thus the way people should be is being sought after in a TV anime. Another aspect that cannot be overlooked is the appeal of mecha. Scientific knowledge among today’s youth is affluent, so the most significant draw is to see their understanding (of sci-fi scientific and mechanical knowledge) specifically designed and transferred into action. As such, this project aims to create a human drama with various types of characters in extreme situations while fully utilizing their desire for mecha.

〈WHAT THIS WORK AND POINT ARE〉

▽ CHARACTER SETTING FOR ENEMY AND ALLY ALIKE IS FASCINATING!

This is not a superhero story where one person plays an active role (throughout the series). Instead, this story is about a group of ordinary youngsters (twenty-six ranging from 15 to 18 years old) from the same environment who, in the wake of a sudden incident, find themselves forced to live together united by a common goal: fighting.

There are many types of people: some are quick-tempered, some are deliberate, some are weak-willed, and others are endowed with animalistic instincts or brimming with intelligence. The way they view and consider things is true-to-life with the audience, and you can see yourself and traces of your friends in the characters. These main characters have been thrust into the extreme situation known as war. They experience various things as people, learn how to view things, and eventually strive to improve themselves. The more sincere they are, the more genuine the figures are, the stronger the laughter, sadness, and joy appeal to the audience.

The enemies may live in different environments, are of another race, and think differently, but ultimately they are the same living being. They, too, fight desperately for a justifiable reason to live. In this work, the so-called “bad guys” have the same humanity as the main characters, making this drama even deeper.

▽ GUNBOY BREAKS THE ROBOT CONCEPT

Gunboy is an enhanced suit that can withstand any environment and expand human abilities one or two hundred times over. Gunboy is equipped with not only transport for the people but also combat mecha and is the face of the main character’s armored combat team. This silent hero will be welcomed with fresh surprise as a new hero even by young children.

▽ POWERFUL, AUTHENTIC “COMBAT”

Actual warfare is a struggle between organizations that transcends individuals. First, four basic strategies must be followed: “operation,” “intel,” “supply,” and “positions.” When speaking of this work, it is a fight assuming that the main characters, the Gunboy, are 26 independent armored combat teams (ground and air infantry) versus 100,000 professional armored combat teams (five divisions) on the enemy side.

Rather than call this a battle, it is a “war.”

When this overlaps with the drama of how a small group of individuals copes and acts in the midst of such circumstances, the battle scenes must become an even greater attraction of the work.

〈WHAT THIS WORKS THEME IS〉

▽ WHAT WOULD YOU STAKE YOUR LIFE ON?

The main characters of this drama (26 of them including the main) were born into peaceful times and grew up reveling in their freedom. That is, until one day, a major war broke out, and all the adults around them died in battle. Thus, they were left behind to fight for their lives (defensive instincts) and became combatants.

Selflessly at that… they did not know the true meaning of what it means to fight.

However, once they lost contact with their distant homeland of Earth and found themselves alone and helpless, the main characters realized that they had lost their freedom for the first time. And so…

I don’t want to die! As everyone begins to think that way, individual freedom, and liberty clash and conflict. Furthermore, various conflicts between organization and individual, reason and emotion arise. Eventually, they realize that they cannot survive alone, that they must help one another, and that they have a duty (responsibility) to do something in order to survive. They also learn the joy of human bonding (friendship, trust, love) that they failed to realize during times of peace, yet they also encounter betrayal. And so, each of them becomes aware of what they are fighting for and who they are fighting for.

For the homeland, Earth!
For friends, lovers, parents, and siblings!
For honor!
For our beloved pets!
For my own survival!

While depicting the emotional turmoil of these characters and their way of life, the work will also explore what freedom is, what duty is, and how to live with them. We would like to talk to the audience and think together about the program’s overarching theme. Plus, in today’s world, where love and romance are accepted as a trend, is there anything in reality?

We want to consider this too.

〈WHAT THE BACKGROUND OF THIS DRAMA IS〉

It is the year 2XXX, and the Earth has welcomed an age of space exploration. Humanity’s activities have expanded from the solar system into the Milky Way, and with the exploitation of resources, humanity has reached a planet where life is possible. Of particular note was the discovery of the third planet Electra in a parallel nebula 30-light years away, which brought a tremendous boon to humanity.

With exactly the same conditions as Earth, this planet was known as a second Earth (New Earth), and the Earth Coalition Space Development Agency began constructing a new world. The birth of “New Earth” not only saved Earth from the food and resource crisis it faced from a burgeoning population but also gave people dreams and a motivation to live. Moreover, the resources exploited on “New Earth” started to be exported to Earthlings who had migrated to planets of the solar system and built city-states, turning the future of the space age into something bright and hopeful for people on Earth.

It was all reminiscent of the arrival of a new era following the discovery of the new American continent three centuries prior. The people who headed to “New Earth” introduced modern science based on artificial city satellites and moved forward with city-state construction from resource development. Eventually, “New Earth Babies” who never knew of Mother Earth were born, and they grew up into young people in a rich environment with freedom.

They are the main characters of this story.

That is until one day, suddenly, a major event transpired that would shatter the dream of the New Earth era.

〈WHAT THE STARTING POINT OF THIS DRAMA IS〉

One of the two satellites (moon) surrounding New Earth was suddenly attacked and occupied by the Zeon Empire’s Space Armored Combat Legion. Boasting a powerful military organization, they swiftly took over the other moon and then began their invasion of New Earth, destroying its facilities one after the other. Learning of the situation, the self-defense forces of the artificial satellite cities launched, taking up a counterattack formation. However, they were scattered in front of a well-trained combat legion on the enemy’s side. The dozens of young men left behind on the artificial satellite cities organized into a battle group to fend for their lives, taking a stand in their defense.

They won their first battle, and they rode that wave of triumph, completely unaware that it had been by accident. When they learned they were cut off from the faraway Earth and isolated in the middle of the cosmos, surrounded by the enemy’s armored legion, the only path left for them was to survive in combat. Their only savior was the modern mecha “Gunboy” left behind in an artificial city satellite. The enemy, the Zeon Empire, was a powerful military state spearheaded by the Space Armored Combat Legion.

However, they were also seeking a means to survive in the Milky Way and Solar System to stave off the food and resources crisis of their homeland. Then, they encountered humans from Earth on New Earth and were plunged into a war they simply could not back down from. For them, New Earth was a resource-rich frontline base they had to secure for their future.

Still, even they had their weaknesses. Because of their overextension, they were forced to fight far away from where support from their homeland could not reach, all to protect their occupied territories. Here, the guerilla warfare tactics of the main characters Armored Combat Team were effective and posed a dilemma for the Zeon Empire.

The various conflicts that the main characters face in such organization versus organization (Armored Combat Legions), the way people are and the way they live their lives scatter sparks through thrilling and powerful battles. A gripping human drama unfolds for this “dynamic youth group” with crisp emotions each and every time.

〈WHO THE CHARACTERS APPEARING ARE〉

◇ Azuma Hongou (Age 15) Male

Gunboy crew. He is the youngest team member yet has a strong sense of justice and refined sensibility. He also has a strong meticulousness yet a visceral repulsion towards Shintarou Hanabusa’s model student type. On the flip side, he respects the mysterious Ryuu Mizuta and considers him something of a big brother to him. He gradually matures to become a fine soldier.

◇ Shintarou Hanabusa (Age 18) Male

Leader of the Spirit of Freedom Armored Combat Team. An honor student with intelligence and the ability to take action. He has exceptional leadership and guidance abilities, yet his coldness and aggressive self-confidence, traits of an honor student, sometimes make him repulsive towards his peers and isolate him. Through these experiences, he, too, matures.

◇ Mirai Kitaru (Age 19) Female

Captain of the Freedom Fortress. An attractive woman on the thicker side with solid leadership abilities, bountiful decisiveness, and broad-mindedness. Calm, collected, and unflappable, her work is second-to-none among men. Her movements are elegant, yet she retains a feminine touch. She also has a warm heart.

◇ Ryuu Mizuta (Age 18) Male

The pilot of a Freedom Wing. A man of few words, his mood is like a disillusioned adult. Agile in action, he has a ruggedness to endure intense missions. He has a tendency to stand apart from his friends, even when he’s with them.

◇ Raizou Fuwa (Age 15) Male

Navigation and electronics crewman for the Freedom Wing. He’s one of the youngest, just like Azuma Hongou. He has a serious personality, to the point of being serious to a fault. He has a timid side yet is virtuous and good-natured, though quiet. Expert in judo.

◇ Akira Kidomaru (Age 19) Male

Freedom Cruiser tank chief. Although his hulking frame speaks for itself, his personality doesn’t match, and he is quite feminine. His way of speaking is effeminate, sensitive, and nervous. He can be indecisive when forced to make a decision, yet his skill at piloting a tank is exceptional, and he quickly flexes his chops to show off his abilities.

◇ Shima Hachijou (Age 16) Female

Freedom Cruiser fire control member. An active, slender, and boyish girl who has the air of a male actor in Takarazuka somewhere. Her personality is cheerful and full of life. In battle scenes, she often works together with Kidomaru, and they make a good team, making up for each other’s shortcomings.

◇ Others

Those in charge and the captain of each team (division) appear as regular characters.

〈THE APPEAL OF HEART-POUNDING MECHA!〉

▽ Gunboy

Nickname of the giant mobile infantry. A sort of enhanced suit, it increases the abilities of the human inside by tens or hundreds of times and has the ability to adapt to any environment. A space-age mobile infantryman in the world of science fiction, it has the ability to carry and equip itself with weapons necessary for combat, plus the ability to work freely in the vacuum of space and on planets with different environments. More than ten meters tall, its primary weapon is the Cosmo Gatling, which fires rounds that are more than ten centimeters in diameter. Its power is comparable to that of today’s 8-inch heavy artillery.

▽ Freedom Fortress

A space base. A mobile fortress (base) that can also be called a so-called warship. Onboard is the huge mobile infantryman Gunboy. It is docked with the Freedom Cruiser, and Freedom Wing as its main weapons yet has no offensive weaponry of its own, only defensive capabilities. It functions solely as a fortress in space and on the surface.

▽ Freedom Wing

A fighter/attack aircraft whose primary function is space combat. It can navigate at Mach 3 in the atmosphere and at ten space kilometers outside. It has a crew of two. Equipped with various types of missiles, Vulcan guns, and bombs, it fights via automatic attack devices. Note: When needed, it can dock with the Gunboy, which has no aerial capabilities, for three-dimensional warfare abilities.

▽ Freedom Cruiser

An all-purpose space tank that is the ideal image of a tank. It can dive into the ocean, race across land, and overcome any deep crevices with its hovercraft. It has a crew of two. Equipped with 30-centimeter cannons and many other weapons. Note: By docking with the Gunboy, it can double its combat abilities on the ground, underwater, and on the sea.

Zeon Empire (Enemy Side)

A powerful military state with an advanced super-scientific civilization located on the planet Syrinx in the Vuelan Nebula, a dozen light years from the third planet Electra (New Earth) in the Parallel Nebula. However, much like Earth, it too suffers from population problems, food, and resource crises, and a series of natural disasters threaten its survival. As such, while pushing for population control (selection and management of superior species), they sought ways to survive on other planets. Finally, they began to invade the Milky Way and Solar System with a powerful military organization.

At this point, the Zeon Empire was perfected as a powerful military state, where individuals were utterly subordinate to members of the organization and where ruthless rationale was recognized as the chosen race.

▽ Gerber (Age 28) Male

An elite young officer with military leadership abilities and an IQ of 240. His scientific rationale and organization-first principles, one that disregards the incompetent, are both cold and terrifyingly attractive. When he is tasked with the invasion of New Earth, he is quite confident that he is able to pull it off in one fell swoop. The unexpected resistance of the 26 main characters is a severe blow to his pride, and he becomes hellbent on not letting Gunboy get away with that.

▽ Gundry (Age 35) Male

Leader of the New Earth Striker Forces that clashes directly with the main characters. He makes full use of the well-developed military organization to torment our heroes. While Gundry’s orders are absolute, he does sometimes refute them to maintain the organization. However rare this may be, he is the epitome of a true soldier and uses his own abilities to advance the battle. His combative personality and love of one’s country are second to none.

▽ Rauzan Kerry (Age 20) Female

A daring and resolute female fighter pilot. Also known as the “Red Comet,” she is renowned as an invincible ace and is feared by the main characters.

 ▽ Cloud (Age 18) Male

Super-dreadnought battle cruiser strike commander. Feared by the main characters as the “Black Star” or “Black Bomber.” A daredevil who knows no fear, he is the vanguard of the fight for his native Zeon Empire.

Other highly organized, battle-skilled stars appear in each episode, such as assault combat corps, combatants, and rear support units.
