The training unit used to train mobile suit pilots. The biggest feature is that the cockpit is changed to a multi-seat type, allowing for instructors and trainees to climb aboard at the same time. The seats are arranged above and below, and from the instructor’s seat in the upper portion, it is possible to see the outside world directly from the glass window. Also, the fact that the armor material has been changed to a cheaper quality in preparation for mass production is also a big feature.

The primary factor that the Earth Federation Forces could train large numbers of mobile suit pilots within a short period of time since the outbreak of the war is often attributed to the accumulation of efficient operational data from the learning computer and the excellent control system. However, there are limits to simulator-centric training and there are many feelings and techniques that cannot be learned without piloting an actual unit, so the role played by this machine cannot be overlooked. During wartime, the achievements of this suit, which developed individuals with various origins such as fighter pilots, spacecraft pilots, tank pilots, new recruits and even members of the military band, into full-fledged mobile suit pilots should be evaluated highly.

This unit is a training machine through and through, and is not supposed to be in actual combat, as can be seen from the fact that the vulcan guns being removed from the head unit. However, in November U.C.0079 during the battle at Jaburo, there are also records that sorties and combat equipped only with handheld firearms as an urgent response.
