background

In order to avoid following in the footsteps of the Titans, the Londo Bell unit which was founded after the war with Haman was created as an auxiliary unit, and although they were mobilized to hunt down surviving Titans and Neo Zeon members, restrictions were imposed on Gundam type suits. The Rick Dijeh is a mobile suit which was prepared by the Londo Bell forces headquarters after having determined that the main mobile suit at the time, the GM III, would not be sufficient to take advantage of the potential powers of Lieutenant Amuro Ray, a hero of the One Year War and Gryps War. The coloring utilized is the test suit color from the 18TFAS period, known as the personal color for Amuro Ray.

At the time that Amuro was admitted into Londo Bell, the Jegan had not yet been deployed. Military preparedness was not yet adequate, and as portrayed in Zeta, from the Federation’s perspective, Amuro was a security risk. And so, he was not given the latest equipment, and largely relegated to ornamental duties. To the Londo Bell mechanics, however, Amuro was a major star. So, they managed to design the greatest suit possible for Amuro on their own. They converted a Dijeh unit they had brought in from Karaba, while modifying the binders and thrusters from the prototype Rick Dias model (for use in outer space) to nozzles fitted for space use.

The heat radiating fins were built of radiative cooling material for use in the vacuum of space. And the Dias-type cockpit located in the neck area (which would be entered through the temporal region of the head) was designed with maximal efficiency so that the pilot could climb aboard by sliding away the head portion. The entrance was built directly into the cockpit block, while the back of the head was customized to hold giant Vulcan cannon rounds. The unit could use a combination of added shields and a weapons rack. The color was an inside joke to Amuro referencing the strong impression made by the test colors, while the mask was a gift from the mechanics owing back to the days when he was not allowed to pilot the Gundam unit (although now their association is so closely linked that we all think of Amuro = Gundam). The drawings were made imagining how bashfully Amuro might smile during the rollout.

Converted to multifunctional parts developed from a Rick Dias type for 0G environment. Equipped with propellant tanks and thrusters, their configuration also serves as stabilizers and AMBAC components.

The cockpit hatch was originally a type where you would board from the side of the head much like the Rick Dias, but when it was remodeled into a Rick Dijeh, there were modifications to the head unit as well as the cockpit boarding hatch. It operates as follows: (1) The head raises, (2) it slides back, (3) the top hatch pops up, and (4) the inside hatch sinks slightly and slides to the front.

A beam weapon developed during the Gryps War that boasts ultrahigh power and a super long firing range. Although an anti-ship weapon, it was also effective on enemy forces who took close battle formation and depending on the pilot’s handling of it, it could also fire while weaving through a free-for-all fight.
