BACKGROUND

A prototype developed for the “Methuss Project” to validate the transformation mechanism of mobile suits attached to “Project Z,” the variable mobile suit development project by Anaheim Electronics. Under the concept of “variable mobile suits with air superiority in 1G environments,” many of the former staff from Hervick, which carried out development of the Core Fighter during the One Year War, participated in the planning and development of an aircraft that has a transformation mechanism to mobile armor mode close to that of an air combat fighter. They later conducted demonstration tests with the prototype at the California Base.

The purpose in developing the MSA-005X-1 Methuss X-1 was to exceed the abilities of the NRX-004 Asshimar transformable mobile armor already developed by the Earth Federation Forces and for it to have freedom of strategic use by implementing high speed flight under 1G in mobile armor mode. In addition to this basic concept, the development team also conducted trials on the ability to adapt to rapidly changing battle situations, or “transforming from mobile armor mode to mobile suit mode at subsonic speeds.” Following the success in breaking through subsonic speeds in mobile suit mode, they were faced with a transformation demonstration test at the subsonic speeds with a transformation-equipped prototype, but the suit could not withstand the shock and was completely destroyed. Because it was a prototype, it was not equipped with any weaponry. Similar to conventional fighters, it was assumed that internal weapons were not impacted by flight capabilities and suspension-style weaponry under the wings, but this was never put into practice because development was completed on nothing more than a prototype.

MOBILE ARMOR MODE

By adopting the clipped delta wing reminiscent of former air combat fighters, stable, high-speed flight was realized. The thrusters, which run from the heel to toes, use a vectored nozzle allowing for regulation of propulsion direction, possessing high mobility as a simple air combat craft. In addition, although radar waves are nullified under Minovsky particle dispersal, its design takes into account stealth properties that are difficult to detect by radar. It is equipped with propellant tanks, sensors and tail stabilizers mounted with electronic equipment later adopted by the Z Plus and others.
