BACKGROUND

Prior to the start of the One Year War, several scientists saw the Zeon mobile suits as a great threat. The Federation army was the one in particular to learn of this threat. If things turned to war, and assuming the case that the battlefield would expand from space to within the colonies of Side 3, land combat weaponry with abilities on par with the mobility and fire power of the Zeon mobile suits could not be found in the current Space Forces. In UC0075, the Federation top brass decided to conduct research and development of anti-mobile suit heavy armor weaponry.

With the anti-MS use heavy tank RTX-440 and the RX-75 Guntank’s participation in real combat, the RMV-1 Guntank II was completed and adopted for official use in the closing parts of the war. At the same time the RMV Project was progressing, several refit versions were deployed on the battlefield due to the CAD=CAM system.

The RMV-3M was also one of these. At first, it was planned to have the MBT number but because of reasons like size and practical use the fact that the successor number of the RMV-3 was determined and put into official use earlier despite this unit being deployed into combat slightly ahead of the RMV-3.

Armaments for the RMV-3M include: twin 120mm cannons on the lower body and twin triple barrel missle launchers. The cockpit is located in the head and seats two, while the body portion seats two. Several types of shells and the magazine rack for the 120mm main cannon shells are stores on the backpack in the rear.

The RMV-3M displayed excellent integrity as the first production unit and it was quickly handed over to the Federation Forces and following the completion of unit formations a half a month later, it was sent to the front lines in Africa. Eighteen units were sent to the African front (some say 23). Two units were seriously damaged and one unit was partially damaged. This was extremely low. While the standard performance of the RMV-3 was not evident, it’s anyones guess but it could be due to it making the best use of locational advantages during combat when engaging an opponent at a short distance.

Despite it’s low destruction rate, that doesn’t mean it it has a battle record that stands out considerably. It’s said, however, that the RMV-3M was quite remarkable on the front during the postwar. It exhibited it’s power through recovery of wreckage and spreading and grading work by using the shovel equipped on the vehicle.

RX-75 SERIES

Although the RX-75 was completed as the Federation Forces first combat capable mobile suit, it lacked mobility so development shifted toward an anti-mobile suit combat vehicle: the RMV-1. [Pictured above are the RMV-1 Guntank II (left) and the RX-75 Guntank (right)]
