To me it sounds like Arche. It's the same thing, but Aegis did it first. And made excellent use of it when Athrun whupped Kira's arse that time (And don't give me that "it was a draw" crap: Athrun had Kira dead to rights. Swap in a nuke for both machines, and Kira would've been reduced to subatomic particles. So I count that as a win for Athrun)And what about beam sabres in cannons :O (Seravee) Quite convenient, as shown by, for example, ZZ Gundam or the Crossbones. And TBH, rarely done. Seravee takes it even further though and has actual arms in the cannon - sort of like the O's skirt-arms. or weapons-that-serve-as-sabres (a'la Nadleeh's rifle) Those pose the problem of being larger, handheld weapons, and thus easier to target - not good as your sole melee weapon, as if you lose it you're screwed. Not too common either. Off the top of my head, only the Gabthley and Zeta Gundam come to mind, besides of course Nadleeh.

the best place is inside remote controlled weapons(fangs, bits, dragoons, funnels etc) =) or beam sabers that double as remote weapons. you could be caught in a melee fight and then the sabers get knocked out of your hands and just when your enemy thinks they've won, a saber goes up their ass...or something like that. or it could be thrown like exia did and then they think they've dodged it turns back while more are coming from the front =)

Well, not necessarily anything quite that loopy. But consider the Exus's beam saber-equipped wired gunbarrels. Now imagine something more compact, that combines firepower with close-combat attack capability. ...actually, the Legend did do that, to a degree, with its upgraded GDU-X7 DRAGOON units - the ones with nine beam guns and a beam spike.

I think you missed some special positions... Like Aegis, back of the hand or on the shield(Zeta, Blitz...).

-Aegis's arm-mounted sabers are on the forearm, not the back of the hand. Off the top of my head I can't recall any Gundam mech that had its saber mounted in the actual hand other than Garazzo. Qubeley and Sazabi stored theirs inside the forearm. Nu and IIRC Unicorn have one mounted outside of one forearm. -Zeta didn't have a beam saber in its shield, though Blitz(and thus Gold Frame) did. And the Wing Gundam stored its beam sabers inside a compartment in its shield. IIRC he Leos and Tallgeese likewise stored their beam sabers on storage racks on the underside of the shield.

IIRC, Zeta's beam sabres were somewhere in its sideskirts, plus it sometimes had the beam-bayonet thing going on much like the gaplant had. Also, the Nu's primary saber on its back had a small beam extension in the bottom of the hilt/handle to deal some damage on the downstroke.

Forearms are the best place, but another solution is the knee.
also, they can be stored into the fingers (just like garazzo had), the idea isnt so bad+it doesnt take time to pull the beam saber out.

you are right... but it would be much more usable if we put a catapult hand on gundam, something like wufei had on his line of gundams in GW.

Also there is big difference in strike power, open palm can't afford so much damage as fist. One of the best solutions may be built in, like Aegis had...

Forearms. The Qubeley series and Sazabi had the right ideas.

I'm kind of an old-school guy. Nothing is cooler than seeing the RX-78-2 pulling out a beam saber off it's shoulder. Lol.

Somehow the Garazzo's beam saber setup always reminded me of Lady Deathstrike from the X-Men comics.
