background

A suit that was developed in accordance with “full armor operation” to improve machine performance by applying added armor and weaponry to a Gundam type mobile suit. Although another Full Armor Gundam type exists aside from this version, the equipment and what not is different. Because the “full armor operation” was technically unfinished for this, it is believed that the system and equipment were built on trial and error. Nonetheless, its overall performance is extremely high and through full armorization, the RX-78 Gundam sees a significant improvement in offensive and defensive power as well as mobility.

This version of the Full Armor Gundam is heavily armed all over its body with weaponry such as a twin barrel beam rifle on its right arm, a 5-barrel rocket launcher on the left arm, a large beam cannon attached to the large backpack and a six barrel missile pod. In addition, with the added armor to the shoulders, hips and knees, small missiles were built-in, thus giving it even higher offensive abilities. Coupled with both arms and the sub arms, it is able to be equipped with four shield, increasing its defensive abilities. The increase in weight from the equipment and the reduction in mobility accompanying it are compensated for with a large rocket booster mounted on the large backpack, thrusters all over the body and with verniers. In addition, the overall thruster output is said to be on par with high mobility type mobile suits. This additional armor can be attached and detached and it was also possible to purge to avoid dead weight when weapons were exhausted or in the instance heavy damage was inflicted to the armor.

The Full Armor Gundam was deployed to the Moore Brotherhood and put into battle in the Thunderbolt Sector as the suit of Ensign Io Fleming. It was heavily damaged by the mobile suit forces of the Living Dead division. However, as a result of the deadly fight against the Psycho Zaku, it suffered serious damage after losing its head and arms at the end of the battle in the Thunderbolt Sector.

Depicted above is the Full Armor Gundam with full loadout. The size of the backpack is almost equal that of the torso itself. The design of the backpack itself is characteristic of those equipped on spacesuits in the previous century.

Depicted above is the Full Armor Gundam with just the additional armor loadout. Although the backpack on the Gundam itself is relatively small compared to the added one, it demonstrates high mobility with thrusters mounted to the shoulders and legs.

The Full Armor Gundam with added equipment removed. Thrusters have been added to the shoulders, knees and calves. Also, in order to swap out the large backpack, the beam saber is stored sideways below the backpack.

shield

In addition to equipping both the left and right arms with them, it’s possible to equip the suit with four shields total by holding them with the sub arms as well. By directing all of the shields to the front, it it exhibits extremely high defensive abilities. Yet despite having multiple laminate layers, it is possible to inflict a certain degree of damage to the shields depending on the concentration of fire. Furthermore, in addition to the handle for the manipulators to use, there is also a part on the back of the shield to attach it to the arms.

missle_name

A projectile weapon mounted on the upper left part of the backpack. Because it can be equipped with different varieties of munitions including micro missiles, it excels in operability. As with the 5-tube rocket launcher, the firing method is selective, and can also lay down a simultaneous barrage with the missiles built into the added armor parts such as the shoulder and hips. Reloading by the mothership is necessary following its depletion.

fa_missiles

missile02_name

A type of missile that is loaded into the 6-tube missile pod. This type in particular is loaded with numerous small missiles. After being fired, it fires off smaller missiles with wires attached. Scores of small missiles are loaded into each container, and in addition to laying down an extremely intense barrage, it was also utilized for attacks on many targets. The Full Armor Gundam utilizes it as a distraction towards the Big Gun.

fa_beam_name

A beam weapon that is the main armament of the Full Armor Gundam, it mounts a series of large-caliber beam cannons. It boasts extremely high power, enough to destroy large debris with a single shot. It is covered by a small shield around the base, which ensures some degree of defense. While it is an external, semi-fixed type of firearm, its characteristic is its wide firing range due to the fact that it is mounted to the arm and not an internalized weapon.

fa_beam_name

The twin barrel beam rifle with the full shield shown mounted on the exterior. Almost the entire gun barrel is covered by the shield, so the risk of damage due to combat and collision with debris is drastically reduced.

rocket_name

A large projectile weapon mounted on the left arm. Rockets are stored in each of the five containers. Equipped with the same attachment as the twin barrel beam rifle, it can also mount a field on the outside of it. Although the type of rockets are unknown, it seems to be able to choose between single shot and full volley shot. Much like the other exterior armaments, it too is able to be purged once its expended.

Sensors parts are positioned on the cheeks. In addition to the Gundam’s characteristic V-shaped antenna, another antenna is installed on the left side of the crest. Also note that the square points shown are the muzzles of the vulcans on the head.

fa_manipulator manipulator_name

Earth Federation Forces common mobile suit manipulator. The Federation’s have a more angular design unlike those of the Principality of Zeon mobile suits. Also, the palm is divided into multiple parts. The finger joints and wrist seem to have an accordion shape to them due to the sealing treatment applied to them.

fa_solemissile sole_name

A contrast between the Full Armor Gundam and Gundam’s soles. By attaching the additional armor to the feet, their size increases. However, there is no obstruction to the vernier on the soles. Retractable claw-shaped parts are provided with the added armor. Their ruggedness drastically improves their grounding properties. In the battle with the Psycho Zaku, they’re used to make contact with buildings in the destroyed colony as well as to decelerate and change direction of the suit. Small missiles have also been equipped inside the added armor on the shoulders and waist. In addition to the main thruster, each missile has four sub thrusters. It is possible to fire them off individually or in a very dense barrage format.

fa_cockpit01

cockpit_name

The shape of the front main monitor is characterized by its curved surface due to the use of a Core Fighter. The sight is the same as the RX-78 Gundam, a type that pulls out from the right side of the headrest. The degree of targeting is extremely high and Io utilizes that when sniping enemy mobile suits. When wearing a normal suit in the cockpit, the portion of the backpack that comes in contact with the backrest will recess, allowing for comfortable seating. This is standard in Federation mobile suits. The Core Fighter’s control stick is equipped with small levers and buttons controlled with the thumb as well as a trigger.

The cockpit as seen from the inside. You’ll find that multiple displays are arranged on the sides, upper sides as well as the front. There is also a small monitor on the console and a throttle at the bottom. By minutely handling the throttle, Io is able to move the unit, avoiding debris as he regulates the jets of the verniers and thrusters. Although the second picture is the same as the first, the leg belts and control sticks for operating the mobile suit have been added in. The third picture depicts a pilot wearing a normal suit in the cockpit. With the front console removed, you can see how the legs are positioned when seated.
